Welcome!
What is EntWork?
EntWork is a directory of sites to find work in the live entertainment industry, particularly in the theatre and dance worlds. The focus is on those just starting out in the industry, including graduating high school students, college and university students, recent graduates, and early career professionals. Since there is a heavy emphasis on the student demographic, most of the directory focuses on summer work so that they can get their resume started and have experience with companies outside their schools.
It is a growing web site, and living resource, so some information is always changing. As theatres add summer seasons, festivals and theatres come and go, and other things happen, information needs to be updated. Even though the author keeps this web site as a hobby, he does try to make sure information is updated every so often.
What EntWork is not.
EntWork is not a jobs listing or hosting site, nor does it list specific show auditions. It does not discriminate except against unpaid work that is not an internship or apprenticeship. Unpaid internships and apprenticeships can be excellent experience, but artists and technicians should be paid for their work even early on in their career.
Why is EntWork?
In the 2017-2018 school year the author of this site worked at the University of New Mexico as one of two Technical Stage Managers (read: Master Electrician) for the Theatre & Dance department. When he asked the students if they’d though about summer work yet, they told him they didn’t know where to look. So, he gathered some resources for them and passed them on through the student organization, SCRAP. He was a bit nostalgic for some of the early Internet method of finding work, in particular the old ArtsLynx web site that went away in May or June of 2011. So, he built this site and hopes to keep it running for many years, and hopes that it helps connect new and upcoming talent flowing into the theatre and dance arts.
This web site is written and updated by Brandon L. Pisani as a hobby and labor of love. He see this as giving back to the industry he loves, and hopes for well trained and experienced future generations of live entertainment workers.
